Unravelled: 3 Secrets to Styling 4c Afro Hair

Contrary to popular belief, 4c hair is very fragile and prone to breakage.  However, that doesn't mean that styling your 4c hair should be stressful.  We've compiled a few tips to help make styling your natural hair easy and stress free.

1. Do your styling on stretched hair.

When your hair is stretched, oils and moisture can easily travel down your its strands. Styles like twistouts, bantu knots, or flexirod sets can help keep your delicate tresses stretched and moisturised.

2. Do your styling on moisturised hair, never dry.

Again, 4c hair is fragile, so you always want to do your styling after it has been moisturised.  Take a few minutes to spritz your hair with a mixture of water and a light oil, then seal with a butter or cream depending on your hair's needs.

3. Manipulate your hair into low-maintenance styles.

Low buns, the tuck and roll, or flat twists are great styles that keep your hair tucked away and off of your clothes (and away from your hands!). While everyone's hair is different, it is a well-known fact that 4c hair grows when it is left alone.

Most of these tips are applicable to all hair types. Nonetheless, 4c hair benefits the most from constant moisture and stretched hairstyles that keep the strands moisturised.  Consider implementing some of these tips into your hair regimen, to help you achieve your hair goals as we move into the fall season!
